Rakesh Kumar, elected as the new Mayor of Muzaffarpur for five months, was declared victorious by one vote. Rakesh Kumar Pintu got 24 votes and Nandu Babu – 23 votes.
The decision of the new Mayor of Muzaffarpur for the next five months has been taken today. The mayoral election began at 11.30 pm in the collectorate auditorium. By voting 47 counselors it was decided that Rakesh Kumar will get the post of mayor of the city. Nand Kumar Sah and Rakesh Kumar Pintu, two contenders for the post of mayor, had a close fight, which Rakesh Kumar won by 1 vote.
For the chair, the support of at least 25 councilors was needed. Till Friday, both the candidates were engaged in playing their bets for the chair. Both were claiming their victory. On the one hand, Rakesh Kumar remained with the supporters of the councilors till late in the night in the house located at Laxmi Chowk. At the same time, Nand Kumar Prasad Sah is also standing with the supporting councilors.
In the collectorate auditorium, all the preparations were completed from the side of the mayoral election. The district administration had deployed magistrates and officers for this, while the State Election Commission had also deployed observers for this. On Saturday, at 11.30 am, all the councilors were present and after the election process started at 12.30, the councilors presented their claim for the post of mayor. After that the voting started and after one o’clock the decision came.
Muzaffarpur city has come under the influence of municipal politics. The general public was badly defeated by the game of chair. People were seen yearning for basic facilities this year. Somewhere there was water logging and somewhere there was a pile of garbage. It is expected that the people of Muzaffarpur will get to see stability and change in the work of the Municipal Corporation.
